ANNOUNCEMENTS:
· Karen reported that the web site is up and running and that someone looks at it everyday. It is now on Yahoo and Google. CIPM has linked to it. It will be advertised, at no cost, in the next issue of the Spring Creek Journal. She has also printed out cards with the web site address to hand out at the Home Show.
· Teri reported that the SARE request for grant proposals has been announced.
· Mayweed Chamomile (Anthemis cotula), is an invasive weed creating problems in Humboldt County. An informational flyer was circulated. Tina reported that it is not on the state weed list, but is a weed that the Paradise Valley Weed District has added to their local list for prioritization. We do not want this weed to find a home in Elko County!
· Tina reported that there is a new director for the NV Department of Agriculture. She comes to Nevada from Montana with a background in the plant industry. Montana currently has a $5.5M trust from which $2M interest is used to fund the CWMA’s. Tina is hopeful that the new director will be an asset for the CWMA program and weed control in Nevada.
· The Weed Bill died in the state legislature, but there were many groups who showed an interest in slipping it into the next session.
· A state weed mapper has been hired by the Dept. of Ag. The previous weed map will be updated and new information added.
· The Nevada State Weed Meeting will be held October 9-12 in Las Vegas at the Gold Coast. Tina reported that there may be scholarships available for individuals to help with the registration fee. Karen will add this info to our web site.
· Jay reported that there is a Biocontrol workshop coming up: “Bugs with an Attitude” put on by MTWOW (War on Weeds). It is a program for K-12 schools to grow bugs for weed control
PUBLIC COMMENT:
NEW BUSINESS:
· Ammend By-Laws or minutes to clarify signature authority of officers. An amendment was approved for the 3/15/07 minutes – see above.
· SCA Fuel Break – Jill will draft a letter to SCA requesting that the contractor hired to do the fire break brush clearing receive weed identification training from Tony Dietz, NDF, prior to starting the project. We would also like to be notified of invasive/noxious weed locations found during the brush clearing by spray painting the site so that SCR CWMA can go back and treat the site. Greg suggested that the roadway where the fuel break crosses also be marked so that we can more easily find the weed locations from the roads. Doug made the motion to purchase two cases (6 cans/case) of upside down marking paint for the project, seconded by Karen, motion passed unanimously. Tina said she would check and see if she could provide us with paint from the order she is expecting soon.
· SCA Weed Control employee hiring – Kim reported that the high school student did not contact him about the position. He called a couple of applicants that SCA had on file, but hasn’t gotten any answers yet. He will post at the high school, Great Basin College and run an ad on the Coffee Shop. With the weather getting nicer, he will need to start treatment soon.
· Action/Discussion: Jill has e-mailed Jess Gilbert but has not had a response. She will talk with him at the Weed Summit. Teri will try to call him (called 4/26 and spoke with Jess. He will not be at the Weed Summit but is interested in continuing with the treatments again this year)
· Action/Discussion: SCA Annual Bar-B-Cue information booth. Doug and Greg volunteered to represent the SCR CWMA at the Bar-B-Cue. A sign-up sheet was passed around for the Home Show. Karen will not be available but will have the set up ready to go on Friday 5/11. Jay, Kim and Jill will set up Friday at 3:30 and Jill will take down on Sunday. Jay Paxson will have a presentation ready for the 11-11:30 time slots, both days. Karen will purchase one 2-gallon sprayer for a door prize. NV DAG will donate two Weeds of the West books for door prizes.
· Elko County Weed Extravaganza 5/1/07 – Karen and Jill will be going. Jay is giving a Bio Control Presentation and update on SCR CWMA.
OLD BUSINESS:
· Rabbit Creek land owners weed treatment - Kim will be treating Dyer’s woad and leafy spurge soon. Greg will assist and give an update at the next meeting.
· Summer Projects: Doug suggested having a June weed tour to update everyone with the ongoing projects of SCR CWMA. It was decided to keep the guest list short. Dates were considered and 6/8/07 9:00-12:00 was chosen.
ITEMS FOR NEXT MEETING:
NEXT MEETING DATE AND TIME: the next meeting is scheduled for 6/8/07 following the weed tour.
ADJOURN – at 8:16m, with no further business to discuss, Karen made the motion to adjourn, seconded by Doug, motion passed unanimously.
